World Series Wrestling crowned its first Heavyweight Champion back on 5 October 2005 when 'The Man Beast' RHINO defeated then NWA Heavyweight Champion JEFF JARRETT in front of 2,500 fans in Melbourne at the Vodafone Arena.
His title reign would not last long as he lost the title to Jeff Jarrett on the 8 October 2005 in Newcastle at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre.
Due to commitments with Impact Wrestling at the time, Jarrett was unable to return to Australia to defend the title so it was again vacated.
Then the worlds two hottest free agents of the era, DANIEL BRYAN (Brian Danielson) battled rival NIGEL MCGUINESS in Sydney at the packed UNSW Roundhouse in April 2007. Daniel Bryan won the championship after one of the greatest bouts ever witnessed in Australia.
The championship would then get defended again against McGuiness before the first ever encounter, DANIEL BRYAN vs BILLY KIDMAN. The two clashed in Newcastle for the championship. Kidman would emerged victorious and become the new World Series Wrestling champion.
Kidman would go on to defend the championship in Adelaide at a near sold out Thebarton Theatre against the monstrous HEIDENREICH!
Kidman would then return back to the USA and signed with WWE working behind the scenes and again was forced to relinquish the championship.
